Our take

CleanPlate review

Real protein, with the fruit topped up by flavouring

Yoga Bar High Protein Muesli is oats, brown rice, ragi and jowar flakes (52%) with a 23% blend of texturized soy and whey protein isolate, strawberry powder, raisins and cranberry (10%), nuts and seeds (6%), date syrup, FOS, jaggery syrup, probiotics and mixed-fruit flavouring.

CleanPlate scores it [L]BB4. The B for nutrition reflects 23.2 g protein and 7 g fibre. The B for ingredients reflects whole grains and a real protein blend with no additives, less a penalty because a "mixed fruit" flavouring tops up the fruit named on the pack, hence the [L]. The 4 for risk comes from saturated fat, sodium and free sugar together.

Claims vs reality

What the pack says, checked against the ingredient list and nutrition panel.

  • Product name

    “Fruits, Nuts & Seeds”

    Misleading

Dried fruit is 10%, but a "mixed fruit" flavouring is added to carry the fruit taste.

  • Product name

    “High Protein”

    Holds

23.2 g protein per 100 g from soy and whey.

  • On the pack

    “Iron 23% of daily needs”

    Be careful

8 mg per 100 g is more than oats, millets, soy and seeds can supply, and no iron is added.

Common misconceptions

Myth: "High-protein muesli replaces a protein meal"

It helps, but a 40 g bowl gives 10 g or so; eggs, dal or curd still count.

Myth: "Muesli is always a low-sugar breakfast"

It depends on the pack: fruit pieces, syrups and chocolate can add as much sugar as a coated cereal.

  • Diabetes or prediabetesWatch the portion

Smarter ways to eat it

Add fresh fruit

Top with real berries or banana instead of relying on the fruit powder.

Pour less, add fruit

A 30 g bowl is smaller than most people pour. Measure once, then add banana, berries or chopped apple for sweetness and fibre.
